DJI Osmo Pocket 4 vs Osmo Pocket 4P: What's Different?

DJI Osmo Pocket 4 vs Osmo Pocket 4P: What's Different?

Last updated: 2026-10-21

The DJI Osmo Pocket 4 and the Osmo Pocket 4P are not the same camera with a faster chip inside. They are two different optical designs that happen to share a battery, a screen and a product family. The Pocket 4 has one lens. The 4P has two, and the second one is a genuine 60 mm telephoto — the first true optical telephoto in the Pocket line.

That single distinction drives most of what follows, so it is worth getting straight before you decide which one to wait for. There is also a second question that matters more in the United States than anywhere else: neither camera has an official US channel, and the 4P's FCC record carries its own wrinkle.

Key Takeaways

The core difference is optical, not electronic. The Pocket 4 has a single 20 mm f/2.0 lens; the 4P adds a second 60 mm f/1.8 lens on a 1/1.28-inch sensor — a real 3× focal change rather than a crop of the same frame.

Both are still digital-zoom cameras at heart. DJI's spec sheets list zoom for both as digital: 2× for photos and 4× for video on the Pocket 4, and 9× for photos and 12× for video on the 4P, stacked on top of the second lens.

The shared hardware is genuinely shared. Same 1545 mAh battery, same 2-inch 556×314 1000-nit screen, same three microphones, same 180 Mbps bitrate ceiling, same microSD support up to 1TB.

The 4P costs you 39.5 g and 30 minutes of runtime — 230 g against 190.5 g, and a 210-minute rating against 240 minutes, both measured at 1080p/24 with Wi-Fi off.

Neither camera is officially sold in the US. DJI's FCC authorization is still pending for both, and 4P certification records disappeared from the public database on 10 July 2026 — it is unconfirmed whether that reflects an active withdrawal or a data issue.

Buy on need, not on newness. If you shoot long, wide and handheld, the Pocket 4 is the lighter tool. If you want reach and a second focal length, the 4P is the only Pocket that gives it to you.

The short answer

If you want one camera that stays in your pocket all day and shoots wide, buy the Pocket 4. If you want a second focal length without changing cameras, the 4P is the only model in the family that offers one. The 4P adds a 60 mm f/1.8 lens on a 1/1.28-inch sensor next to the same 20 mm f/2.0 wide lens, and DJI claims 17 stops of dynamic range and D-Log 2 against the Pocket 4's 14 stops and D-Log. Everything it asks in return is weight and runtime.

The catch for US buyers is that this is a comparison between two cameras you cannot buy new from an official channel. Both are third-party stock here, at third-party prices, with third-party terms — including ours. That does not make either camera worse. It does mean the decision is about which camera you want, not which channel you prefer.

What the 4P actually is

Start with the name, because the search results get it wrong constantly. The model is the Osmo Pocket 4P, not the "Pocket 4 Pro." DJI confirmed the naming at a press event at the Cannes Film Festival on 14 May 2026, and the camera was officially released on 15 June 2026, going on sale in China on 23 June. It is the first Pocket with two cameras.

Two things about the 4P are worth separating, because they are often reported as one:

Confirmed by DJI: a dual-camera system, a 60 mm mid-focal lens alongside the 20 mm wide, a 1-inch sensor on the wide camera, a 2-inch rotating touchscreen, ActiveTrack 7.0 subject tracking, and 17 stops of dynamic range with D-Log 2 colour on DJI's product pages.

Reported but not on the official spec sheet: a variable aperture on the primary lens and a larger battery. DJI's published spec sheet lists a fixed f/2.0 wide lens and the same 1545 mAh cell as the Pocket 4, so treat the variable-aperture and bigger-battery claims as unconfirmed until DJI publishes them.

The second lens is confirmed in DJI's own numbers, not just in marketing. The spec sheet lists a mid-focal camera with an equivalent focal length of 60 mm and an aperture of f/1.8, on a 1/1.28-inch sensor, focusing from 0.2 m. Sixty divided by twenty is three, and that is where the "3× optical zoom" claim comes from.

Side by side: the published specifications

Every figure below comes from DJI's own spec sheets for each model. Where the two cameras are identical, that is the point: DJI carried a surprising amount of the Pocket 4's hardware straight into the 4P.

Read the table by column, not by row. The "what it means" column is where the decision lives: the 4P's advantages are concentrated in the lens row, and its costs are concentrated in the weight, size and runtime rows.

What "3× optical zoom" actually means here

This is the point most write-ups blur, and it matters if you are used to how a zoom lens behaves.

The 4P does not have a lens that smoothly changes focal length from 20 mm to 60 mm. It has two fixed lenses, and you switch between them. Light travels through whichever lens you select, so the framing change is genuinely optical — nothing is upscaled, and the mid-focal camera records its own full frame. But the transition is a jump, not a slide. You cannot hold a shot and push in from 1× to 3× mid-take.

DJI's own spec sheet is honest about this. In slow-motion and timelapse modes it says digital zoom is not supported, leaving only the 1× and 3× fixed focal lengths — which is exactly how a dual-camera system behaves. The 12× and 9× figures are digital zoom applied on top of the 3× optical base, and they behave like any crop: more reach, more interpolation, less detail.

So the practical comparison against the Pocket 4 is not "3× versus 2×." It is "a real second focal length versus none at all." If you shoot 20 mm all day, that difference is invisible. If you have ever wished you could reach 60 mm without walking closer or changing cameras, it is the whole reason the 4P exists.

What the 4P asks in return

Three costs, in the order you will notice them:

Thirty minutes of stated runtime. Both cameras use the same 1545 mAh cell, but DJI rates the 4P at 210 minutes against the Pocket 4's 240 minutes, under the same test conditions (25°C, 1080p/24, Wi-Fi off, screen off). On a long day that is one fewer setup.

Thirty-nine point five grams and a wider body. The 4P is 230 g against 190.5 g, and 63.3 mm wide against 44.4 mm. That is the difference between a camera you forget is in your jacket and one you notice.

Four gigabytes of internal storage. 103 GB against 107 GB. Minor on its own, but it is a reminder that the 4P is not a straight upgrade — it is a reallocation.

Note also what did not change: the bitrate ceiling stays at 180 Mbps, the screen is the same panel, the microphones are the same three, and the maximum photo resolution is unchanged. The 4P is not a higher-resolution camera than the Pocket 4. It is a second-focal-length camera that happens to share almost everything else.

US availability: the question that overrides the specs

Neither camera has an official US channel, and the reasons differ slightly.

For the Pocket 4, DJI has said so directly: a company spokesperson confirmed in mid-April 2026 that the Osmo Pocket 4 "will not be available in the US market at launch due to pending FCC authorisation." DJI was added to the FCC's Covered List on 22 December 2025, which blocks the agency from granting new equipment authorizations to the company. DJI's petition, its Ninth Circuit lawsuit (Case 26-1029) and its status report due in November 2026 have not changed that position.

For the 4P, the picture is the same in substance and murkier in detail. FCC certification records for the Osmo Pocket 4P disappeared from the public database on 10 July 2026. It is unconfirmed whether that reflects an active withdrawal or a data issue, and we are not going to guess. What is clear is that no US official channel has opened for the 4P either, so any 4P you see listed in the US is third-party stock, exactly as with the Pocket 4.

That has a practical consequence for this comparison. If you are choosing between the two today in the US, you are choosing between two third-party imports with different optics. The camera with the second lens is also the one with the shorter supply history, which tends to mean less consistent stock and less well-documented terms.

Pricing, stated honestly

DJI's official Chinese price for the 4P standard bundle is ¥3,799. No official US price exists for the 4P — DJI has not published one, and any dollar figure you see quoted for a US 4P should be treated as a third-party listing rather than a DJI number. US pricing for the 4P needs to be verified against the seller you are actually buying from.

The Pocket 4 does have a stated third-party price here. POCKET HUB lists the Standard Combo at $560 and the Creator Combo at $799, duties and clearance included. That is our number, published on our own product page, alongside the rest of the market's pricing in the documented US price picture for this camera so you can judge it by the same standard as anyone else's.

Who should buy which

Split by what you shoot, not by which model is newer:

The honest version of that table is that the 4P is a specialist tool. It is better at one specific thing and slightly worse at everything else, and it is aimed at creators who already know they want a second focal length.

It has a second optical lens, not a zoom lens. The 4P carries a fixed 20 mm wide camera and a fixed 60 mm mid-focal camera, and you switch between them. That is a genuine 3× optical change in focal length, since each camera records its own full frame — but you cannot transition smoothly between the two during a take. On top of that, DJI lists digital zoom at 9× for photos and 12× for video.

Not across the board. It adds a 60 mm f/1.8 lens, a closer-focusing wide lens (0.09 m against 0.2 m), and DJI claims 17 stops of dynamic range with D-Log 2 against the Pocket 4's 14 stops and D-Log. Against that, it is 39.5 g heavier, 18.9 mm wider, rated for 30 minutes less runtime, and has 4 GB less internal storage. Photo resolution, bitrate ceiling, screen and microphone count are identical.

Mostly yes, with one exception worth knowing. DJI's store listing states that the Osmo Pocket 4 battery handle is fully compatible with the 4P, and that the Pocket 4 and Pocket 3 battery handles are interchangeable, though some data, audio and device-wake functions behave differently when a Pocket 4 handle is attached to a Pocket 3. Because this is a compatibility detail that can change, verify it against the specific accessory page before ordering.

The bottom line

The 4P is not the Pocket 4 with a version bump. It is the same platform with a second lens bolted on, and the length of that list of unchanged specifications is the real story: same battery, same screen, same bitrate, same photo resolution, same three microphones.

So the decision is narrower than the spec sheet makes it look. If you want a 60 mm focal length without carrying a second camera, the 4P is the only Pocket that offers one. If you shoot wide and long, you are paying for a lens you will not use, in weight and in runtime. And whichever you choose, do it on the optics, not on which model number is larger.
